The Face Shop is a South Korea based skincare and cosmetics manufacturer, retailer and franchise business. It is a subsidiary of LG (yes the household appliances LG 😉 ). The Face Shop headquarter is in Seoul. It was founded in December 2003. It was launched in India in October 2016. It is known for their nature and culture inspired products.

What I say:

Packaging:

The cream comes in a pastel green glass tub. This tub comes in a green cardboard box. This cardboard box has all the details on it. The tub has a bulky design that makes it less travel friendly. The tub comes with a plastic spatula to scoop out the cream.

Physical Appearance:

The cream is white in colour. It has smooth gel-cream texture that spreads easily on the skin.

Fragrance:

It has a subtle fragrance that stays for 5-10 minutes.

Benefits of natural Ingredients:

SALVIA HISPANICA SEED (commonly known as Chia Seed): soothes inflammation and calms acne, moisturizes skin, anti-aging properties.

GOSSYPIUM HERBACEUM SEED (commonly known as Cotton Seed): speeds up healing, improves appearance of skin, moisturizes dry skin, prevent premature aging.

Verdict:

This cream was my first purchase from The Face Shop and from the Chia Seed range. The cream comes in a glass tub with a plastic spatula. The spatula is provided to scoop out cream from the tub, so that you don’t have to dip your fingers in the tub. This makes it more hygienic as every time we dip our fingers in the tub we risk the spreading of bacteria in the tub. I don’t know how many people follow this practice of using a spatula to scoop out a pea-size amount of cream, every time they want to moisturize their face. I don’t.

The cream has a gel-cream texture that spreads evenly on the skin. It is light on skin and you need a little amount. It gets absorbed in the skin easily leaving no greasy or oily residue behind. It did not make my skin completely matte but it controlled oil production for sometime.

This cream keeps my face moisturized for 5-6 hours. I have to reapply it after I wash my face. It can be worn under makeup to make smooth canvas for makeup application. It can be worn at night; wear a night mask over it and you will get super soft skin in the morning.

I did not see any visible improvement in my skin appearance.

In winters, this is a good hydrating cream for people with combination to oily skin. All dry skin people, this cream is not for you; you should either use a hydrating serum under this cream or use a heavy moisturizer.

In summer, this is a good hydrating cream for all skin types. It is very light on skin and will control the oil production.

Though it has gel-cream texture, it is more cream than gel. I do not prefer it in summer season (only on days when my skin feels dry I use it) but I may add this to my skin regimen in winter season.

The good thing about this cream is that it is free from the 7 harmful additives: parabens, tar colorant, animal-source ingredients, mineral oil, talc, paraffin, polyacrylamide.

They have one more variant of this hydrating cream that I have not as yet.

Overall it is a good hydrating cream that will give you a semi-matte finish with some oil control (use The Face Shop Chia Seed Serum if you really want benefits of Chia Seed).

Cons:

• Expensive
• Bulky packaging
• No visible improvement in appearance of skin

Will I repurchase? No. I want to try other hydrating creams for The Face Shop

Do I recommend? No. I would recommend The Face Shop Chia Seed Serum with a good moisturizer, if you want the benefits of Chia Seed on your skin.
